Purchasing and Inventory Management Specialist

Description

Matternet designs, builds, and operates autonomous drone networks that enable ultra-fast, low-cost, and zero-emission package delivery. We're seeking a Purchasing and Inventory Management Specialist to help source components, manage supplier relationships, and oversee the storage, organization, and distribution of materials for our production and field operations.

Responsibilities

  • Source, negotiate, and purchase parts, tools, and materials for production, R&D, and field operations

  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, competitive pricing, and on-time delivery

  • Track costing, purchase orders, lead times, and incoming shipments

  • Manage receiving, labeling, storage, and issuance of inventory

  • Maintain accurate inventory records in our systems

  • Conduct regular cycle counts and resolve discrepancies

  • Plan and kit materials for production and NPI builds

  • Ensure proper storage practices for sensitive and high-value components

  • Identify opportunities to streamline procurement and warehouse processes

  • Maintain and upkeep warehouse storage areas. Implement best practices in material handling, storage, and documentation

  • Coordinate domestic and international shipments, ensuring compliance with regulations

  • Work with operations and engineering teams to forecast material needs and prevent shortages

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in production and NPI purchasing, inventory management, and production operations, preferably within a manufacturing or aerospace environment

  • Familiarity with Bill of Materials PLM systems (e.g., Arena, Agile)

  • Experience in developing and maintaining a production MRP system

  • Proficiency with common ERP systems, particularly SAP Business ByDesign

  • Resourceful and able to work independently on sourcing and negotiation for custom-made or off-the-shelf commodities, including PCBAs, cables, mechanical components, packaging, and consumables

  • Knowledge of international logistics, including customs classifications, duties, tariffs, and restrictions

  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and work in a hands-on warehouse environment

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with shifting priorities

  • Willingness to participate in hands-on production activities as required
